The City of Chesterfield will be hosting an Art Exhibit at City Hall, located at 690 Chesterfield Parkway West.  The exhibit will be on display in the City Hall lobby, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. (excluding holidays). 


ARTIST RECEPTION

Chesterfield Parks, Recreation & Arts will also host an Artist Reception in the multi-purpose room at City Hall. The reception will offer an intimate setting for art enthusiasts to meet the artists and an opportunity to discuss the inspiration behind their art and to discuss the exhibit in depth. CALL FOR ARTISTS TERMS & AGREEMENT

About the Exhibition
Professional or amateur artists working in two or three dimensional media are invited to apply to the schedule of gallery exhibitions at the rotating Art Exhibit at City Hall. Exhibits will be on the first floor and upper level and are scheduled for 12-week periods. More than one artist’s works may be exhibited at one time. For each exhibition, artists and their works are publicized by the Chesterfield Parks, Recreation & Arts staff through press releases sent to local media, social media, mobile applications, online calendars, galleries and arts organizations. Artists may choose to produce supplemental publicity and flyers/business cards that will also be sent to appropriate contacts and arrange a reception, if desired.

Precautions will be taken to protect the artwork from damage or theft. However, the exhibit space is not secured.  The city will provide insurance for artwork submitted for exhibition. City Hall hours are 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The gallery is closed on government holidays.

Eligibility
Professional or amateur artists living in and near St. Louis City and County working in two or three dimensional media (video is not accepted). 

All two dimensional work must be mounted or framed and ready to hang. Wire must be mounted 1/3 of distance from top of frame. No sawtooth or cloth hangers. 

Jury
Chesterfield Parks, Recreation & Arts will jury the artist’s work and determine if this would be good fit for the space. 

Selection process and review criteria
The Chesterfield Parks, Recreation & Arts staff will jury submissions. Selection of work will be based upon artistic excellence and works reflecting history, art, culture, and natural diversity. Compatibility with surroundings and appropriateness for display in a public building are paramount. All artwork must be suitable for display in a public building frequented by persons of all ages. No works that depict nudity, sexual acts, profanity, or obscenity will be selected. The jury may choose specific themes within this general framework, and advertise these themes prior to artwork being submitted for each 12 week cycle.

Project period
Exhibits are scheduled in advance. Exhibits are displayed for a period of 12 weeks.

Set-up/take down time
Delivery and pick up of artwork will be by appointment only. Special arrangements can be made after regular business hours. 

Budget
The artist will not be compensated in consideration of placement of their works. 

Commission
Sale of any artwork is handled by the artists. The city will give the artist’s contact information to interested buyers. 

Artist reception
A reception may be scheduled on a mutually agreed upon date. Artists are encouraged to attend and provide a mailing list for invitations. 

Entry procedure
All work must be original and created solely by the artist. Jury has the right to select quality work that they deem competent and in compliance with the theme chosen for the City Hall.

CALL FOR ART-HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ART EXHIBIT AT CITY HALL

  1. Upload three JPEG images or color photos below of each proposed work (3-9 pieces) with artist name, title, medium, size and description. JPEG must not be larger than 8”x8” at 72 dpi.
  2. Upload a resume detailing exhibition history, and/or artist statement.
  3. Send us your online portfolio/website.

If selected:
The artist agrees to allow Chesterfield Parks, Recreation and Arts to use a minimum of three of the submitted images (or other provided by artist) and other submitted materials for the purpose of promotion and publicity of the exhibition. Submission of one application constitutes agreement to use the artists' materials in this way.
