Councilmember Merrell Hansen

Merrell Hansen was elected to serve the citizens of Ward 4 in April 2022. She is currently on the Planning & Public Works and Public Health & Safety Committees of Council.

Before her Council service, Merrell volunteered as Chair for the Planning Commission where she worked with the Planning and Zoning staff to create our updated Comprehensive Plan, the official guide for the growth of Chesterfield. Merrell also volunteered for Chesterfield's Arts Council which was awarded the 2011 Missouri Creative Community Award.

Merrell's professional career includes leadership roles  and ownership for international firms and small business. She helped to spearhead a National Emmy Award winning public health communications firm, a St. Louis media and digital production company and a technology that benefited seniors and individuals with development disabilities. Before that, Merrell served as Senior Vice President for  international Gannett Co, Inc. and King Broadcasting, Inc. and she played a senior level role in the launch of a national newspaper. Locally, she was GM for KSD and KUSA.

Merrell served as Founder and President of the St. Louis Radio Association, President of the St. Louis Advertising Club, Board Member of the National Radio Association, Board Member of the Missouri Broadcaster's Association and Board Member of the American Ballet Theater.

She has served Board terms on a number of community nonprofits including the Center for Children with Visual Impairments and currently she acts as Treasurer for the Gateway Sporting Dog Association, promoting the love and care of canines, which serve our law enforcement and our families with their devout devotion. 


Merrell has deep roots in the Chesterfield community.  Chesterfield has been her family's home for more than four decades where she has been an advocate and neighborhood Trustee.  She attended DePauw University.
