ATTENTION PUBLIC ARTISTS: Chesterfield issuing a Call for Temporary Public Art for 2017 Music & Arts Festival

The Chesterfield Parks, Recreation & Arts Department (CPRA) is hosting a Music & Arts Festival at the Chesterfield Amphitheater in Central Park on Saturday, August 5, 2017. We are asking creative minds to come forward with ideas for temporary public installations. CPRA’s goal is to acquire a temporary art piece to accompany the festival that will inspire the public, promote social media interactions, and leave the festival attendees with a lasting memory. There are two categories; small scale and large scale.

Small Scale Temporary Art ($2,500 budget): The small scale temporary art pieces that are selected will debut at the festival and will then be moved and remain at a public location within the city of Chesterfield for a 3-6 month time frame so that the public can continue to interact and enjoy the artwork. The awards will be given up to $2,500 to create a sculpture for the CPRA, which will cover the artist’s fee and all costs (materials, production, installation and de-installation of work, travel and accommodation). The Small Scale submission deadline is March 15, 2017.

Large Scale Temporary Art ($5,000 budget): The large scale temporary art pieces that are selected will debut at the festival and will need to be assembled a week before the festival. The artwork will be taken down on a case-by-case basis. We ask that each idea presented contain at least one of the following core qualities for our festival - educational, interactive, or promotes community involvement. This could mean a series of workshops leading up to the event, community members contributing on the day of the event or any other ideas that engage the community. Awards will be given up to $5,000 to create a sculpture for the CPRA, which will cover the artist’s fee and all costs (materials, production, installation and de-installation of work, travel and accommodation). The Large Scale RFQ deadline is February 28, 2017.

Artist fees should not exceed 20% of budget. All applicants are welcome to seek additional funding from other funding organizations to support proposals. All submissions must be community-friendly and appropriate for public viewing. To apply or for application details, please visit www.chesterfield.mo.us/call-for-art-applications.html.
