ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE RECOGNIZES ALLIED WASTE

The Chesterfield Citizens Committee for the Environment presented Allied Waste with a "Green Team" designation at the November 2 City Council meeting. Those individuals and businesses who are given this designation are those who are distinguished in their innovative environmental efforts. Green Team members have educated and facilitated change by encouraging the reduction, reuse and recycling of solid waste materials destined for landfills and they have helped enhance conservation efforts. Sales Manager, Nicole Scatizzi, accepted the award on behalf of Allied Waste.

By partnering with the City and the Environment Committee, Allied has helped to increase the amount of recycled materials being collected significantly over the past several years. Most recently, they provided 65 gallon, wheeled recycling containers to all residents, which has helped to decrease the amount of solid waste going to landfills. Allied strives to educate the public about the importance of recycling by exhibiting at the City's Earth Day and Recycle Day events. Additionally, they have began collecting recycled materials at the City's parks and recently donated recycling and solid waste services during The Awakening unveiling events held in October.

"We are so fortunate to have a partner such as Allied Waste in our community," stated Committee Co-Chair, Darcy Capstick. "Allied helps achieve a greater understanding of conservation through recycling for our community, while enhancing quality factors for the environment," she said.
