Chesterfield Art Exhibit at City Hall focuses on “The Immigrant Experience”: A collaboration with Fine Art Ltd. and the Missouri Immigrant & Refugee Advocates

The City of Chesterfield will be hosting an Art Exhibit at City Hall, located at 690 Chesterfield Parkway West, beginning October 8, 2017 through December 30, 2017.  The exhibit will be on display in the City Hall lobby, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm (excluding holidays). This Art Exhibit is a collaboration between the Chesterfield Parks, Recreation & Arts Department that features two components, “The Missouri Immigrant Experience: Faces & Places,” from the Missouri Immigrant & Refugee Advocates and the “Liberta: Sculpture Series” from Fine Art Ltd.

“The Missouri Immigrant Experience: Faces & Places,” includes both historic and contemporary photographs of immigrant communities with a focus on the contributions of Germans. The exhibit is meant to juxtapose past and present immigrants in the hopes that visitors will see the ways in which past generations of newcomers have contributed to society, and encourage the understanding that if they are not buried under the weight of nativism, current and future generations will do the same.

The “Liberta” Commemorative Bas-Relief Series captures the immigrant experience through 16 of the most distinguished sculptors in America to create a limited edition series depicting the 14 major ethnic groups that entered the United States through Ellis Island. The series consists of individual reliefs, which are offered in both bronze and paper-cast versions. The complete bronze Liberty Commemorative Bas-Relief series will be placed on permanent display on Ellis Island.

Chesterfield Parks, Recreation & Arts will also host an Artist Reception on Wednesday, November 8 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm in the multi-purpose room at City Hall. The reception will offer an intimate setting for art enthusiasts to meet the artists and an opportunity to discuss the inspiration behind their and to discuss the exhibit in depth.
