Chesterfield Police Department Establishes a ‘Safe Exchange Zone’ for Craigslist Transactions

Chesterfield Police Department Establishes a ‘Safe Exchange Zone’ for Craigslist Transactions.

The Chesterfield Police Department will establish a ‘Safe Exchange Zone’ effective June 1, 2015. The area will be on City Hall property and will provide a public space for personal exchanges such as “Craigslist sales.”

A sign will be placed in the courtyard on the north side of the City Hall building indicating the area for these exchanges. The area will be will be monitored by video, but will not be manned with police personnel.

The intent is to provide a safe means of conducting these transactions. This response has come as a result of an increase in the number of personal sale and trade transactions taking place in unsafe environments, which can sometimes result in criminal activity.
