Chesterfield, Missouri named Sterling Tree City USA for 18th consecutive year

The Arbor Day Foundation has awarded the City of Chesterfield with the “Sterling” Tree City USA Award for the 18th consecutive year in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. The “Sterling” title is awarded to communities that achieve 10 consecutive Growth Awards.  The City of Chesterfield became a “Sterling” Tree City in 2011.

In order to receive the Tree City USA status, the City must meet four standards including having a tree board or department, tree care ordinance, a community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita  and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.  The Arbor Day observance and proclamation will take place at 11:00 am at the River’s Edge Park Grand Opening on Saturday, April 11.

The City also received the Tree City Growth Award for demonstrating environmental improvement and higher level tree care.  The Tree City USA Program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and National Association of State Foresters.  Trees are vital to the public infrastructure of cities and towns, providing numerous environmental, social and economic benefits.
