CHESTERFIELD POLICE INVESTIGATES THREAT DIRECTED TOWARD PARKWAY WEST HIGH SCHOOL

At approximately 10:30PM on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, the Chesterfield Police Department became aware of a Snap Chat post that threatened a shooting at Parkway West High School on this date. In conjunction with Parkway School District officials, the Chesterfield Police Department immediately launched an investigation and was able to identify the individual who made the post.

That individual, a 17-year-old student of Parkway West, was contacted by detectives and cooperated with this investigation. Detectives were able to determine that the student had no plan to commit a violent act and had no means to carry out the threat. The case will be referred to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for consideration of criminal charges. School will go on as scheduled at Parkway West High School with an increased police presence.

The Chesterfield Police Department and the Parkway School District is grateful for the numerous students and parents who reported this threat to authorities. The Parkway School District asks that the media refrains from reporting from Parkway West High School to maintain a sense of normalcy for the students.
